ON DECEMBER, 2014, AN ARTICLE “THE COMPLETE STREETS PROGRAM – MAKE ROAD SAFER FOR EVERYONE” by Li C. Wang, Founder /Design Director of The LCW Group, PUBLISHED IN AMERICAN INFRASTRUCTURE MAGAZINE
The Complete Streets movement is gaining traction in California and the U.S. as government officials, urban planners and developers advance the principle that safe, multi-purpose roadways are a vital part of livable, attractive and healthy communities.
The National Complete Streets Coalition was launched in 2004 to provide comprehensive information on the Complete Streets concept (www.smartgrowthamerica.org/complete-streets). In California, the foundation for Complete Streets is the Complete Streets Act of 2008 (renewed in November 2014) that requires all municipalities, counties, and regional governments to institute policies ensuring that transportation agencies design or retrofit roadways to accommodate all users (www.dot.ca.gov/hq/tpp/offices/ocp/complete_streets.html).
Recognizing the importance of Complete Streets, the Building Industry Association of Orange County has joined the movement by designating the concept as one of its primary initiatives for 2015. I would appreciate your own thoughts on the Complete Streets concept. Please contact me at 949.388.8588 or lwang@thelcwgroup.com. We are at your service.
